The Auctioneer is a classic psychological horror story in the vein of Shirley Jackson and Stephen King, although Samson has a compelling writing style all her own. It is the story of a devilish character coming into a small NH town and eventually taking over. The evil becomes apparent over time, but for many, it is too late. Interesting, well-developed characters and a real sense of rural beauty make this novel outstanding. I am so glad that I purchased a copy here.
