Carla Gugino is back on the big screen as Sebastian Gutierrez’s “Elektra Luxx,” a retired porn star attempting to come to terms with her now “normal” life as a sex-education instructor at her local community center and impending motherhood.

And it turns out that Gugino garnered quite a bit of satisfaction stepping into the shoes of an X-rated sensation.

“Playing this porn star was fantastic; I fell in love with this character Elektra Luxx. We also get to meet her sister Cecilia in this film and I’ve always been fascinated by two people that are raised in the same way but go in two completely different directions,” Luxx told FOX411’s Pop Tarts. “I got to work with such an incredible group of women.  I think I would be a little hesitant to play this kind of character if I didn’t trust implicitly the filmmakers vision and Sebastian (the director) loves women and has that European sensibility so we all felt comfortable jumping into it.”

However, the 39-year-old “Watchmen” star is still divided when it comes to the real adult industry – is it demeaning or empowering to the female species?

“That’s what is interesting to me about meeting people who started out young in that profession; it is such an intense way to go… Some women are thrilled to be doing it and love it, but like anything you have to look back and realize you have to live your life forward,” Gugino continued. “My tendency would have been to say it is not great for women, but then I know people like Jenna Jameson and Sasha Grey, people who have become very successful in that profession and it has been very empowering to them.”

And after donning blonde locks for the film?

“I’m not sure if blondes have more fun, but they definitely get more attention,” Gugino added.
